Feb. 09--WWII Army veteran Anthony "Tony the Kind Bambino" Barrasso joined family and friends to mark his 100th birthday with a celebration at the Don Orione Home in Eastie.
Several local officials, including Hub City Councilor Sal LaMattina and Massachusetts Veterans' Services Secretary Francisco Urena, also got in on the festivities.
Barasso, born in Boston on Feb. 8, 1918, was drafted into the Army on March 7, 1941, and was quickly shipped overseas as a member of the 3rd Battalion, 26th Yankee Infantry Division.
