District 30 Rep. Reeves receives Legislator of the Year Award for veterans work

Federal Way Mirror - 11/17/2017

District 30 Rep. Kristine Reeves, D-Federal Way, recently was honored for her work supporting veterans and their families in her role as a state lawmaker.

The Washington State Department of Veterans Affairs and the Governor's Veterans Advisory Committee selected Reeves to receive the 2017 Outstanding Service to Veterans – Legislator of the Year Award.

Reeves spent her freshman session in Olympia advocating for military service members, veterans and their families by sponsoring and co-sponsoring legislation to improve transition services, increase higher education assistance, provide federal-earned services to rural areas and increase privacy for Gold Star family members. During the 2017 legislative session, Reeves also successfully passed the Wounded Warrior Shared Leave Act, a new program that gives state employees who are veterans or a spouse of a veteran access to a shared leave pool during the traditional probation period, when leave isn't awarded.

"I come from a military family and know the sacrifices they make," Reeves said in a media release. "It is an honor to be an advocate for military families and veterans in Olympia. It will always be my top priority to make sure our service members, veterans and their families have the access to services they have earned."
