Focusing on helping homeless Veterans and promoting active lifestyles, the 7th annual VA2K Walk & Roll event will kick off on May 17, 2017 at the Overton Brooks VA Medical Center. It includes a short two-kilometer walk (1.24 miles) and the community is invited to attend. The event is free and the opening ceremony is at 10 a.m., but participants can show up anytime between 7 a.m. and 3 p.m.

The event begins in the traffic circle in front of the main entrance. In the event of inclement weather, the VA2K will be held indoors, and an alternate route will be provided. The Mighty Eighth Air Force Top Three will sell $5 hamburger plates from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. with all proceeds supporting VA Homeless programs.

"The VA2K Walk & Roll is just one of the ways we encourage our staff to adopt healthy lifestyles and it's also a great way for them to help homeless Veterans. Overton Brooks is committed to helping our community end homelessness," said Richard Crockett, interim medical center director.

Community groups who are interested in participating in the event should contact the local VA2K coordinator, Dr. Moona Tanga at 318-990-5042 or via email at Srimathi.Tanga@va.gov.

If you wish to provide coverage of this event, contact the OBVAMC Public Affairs Office at (318) 990-5571 or 5249. You can also reach the office via email at vhashrpublicaffairs@va.gov.
