SBA names Veteran Business Advocate of the Year

Fayetteville Observer - 5/7/2017

May 07--The Small Business Administration named its 2017 Veteran Business Advocate of the Year last week, honoring Air Force veteran Kyle Winder.

Winder, president of the North Carolina Veteran's Business Association, also known as NC VetBiz, in Raleigh, was honored for his commitment to the advancement of veteran business ownership, officials said.

The award was presented during the 2017 Small Business Week Luncheon in Raleigh on Thursday.

Winder served in the Air Force for eight years, piloting C-130 aircraft. In his civilian career, he also serves as president of Flight Plan Financial.

The SBA said he works to increase business and financial opportunities for veterans, strengthening the role of veteran business owners within the community and improving the environment for veterans in business.

"Our small business advocates are to be commended for their commitment and contribution to the innovation, job creation and the success of building our economy," said SBA North Carolina District Director Lynn Douthett.

Winder said he was honored for the recognition in a statement released by the SBA.

"I take great pride in supporting this community and working closely with the SBA. Throughout history, our nation's veterans have served our country with honor and distinction," he said. "Today, these same veterans continue to serve, just in a different way. They are entrepreneurs, business owners, employers, goods producers and service providers. They create jobs, generate tax revenue for the North Carolina economy and provide meaningful support to their fellow veterans."
