Veterans Council Hosting 2017 Memorial Day Ceremony

The Veterans Council of Indian River County invites everyone to attend the 2017 Memorial Day Ceremony to be held on Veterans Memorial Island Sanctuary on Monday, May 29. The program will begin at 9 a.m., preceded by patriotic music provided by the Vero Beach High School Band.

Retired vice admiral Alan S. Thompson will present the keynote address. A resident of Vero Beach,Thompson has received numerous decorations for his service, among them the Defense Distinguished Service Medal, the U.S. Navy's Distinguished Service Medal, and the Defense Superior Service Medal.

A new feature for this event, The Boots on the Ground Memorial, becomes an integral part of the 2017 Memorial Day Ceremony. Each boot you will see on display is representative of lives lost by those serving in our military since 9-11-2001.

The Ceremonial Wreath be placed by Staff Sergeant Jason Wang, U.S. Army and Corporal Heath Harris, USMC.

The ceremony is open to the public. Please bring a lawn chair and plan to arrive early.
