Veterans suicide outreach program set at Eisenhower Library

Salina Journal - 1/17/2017

ABILENE - The Eisenhower Presidential Library is working with the Kansas Combat Veterans Motorcycle Association Chapter 21-1 to raise awareness about the number of veterans who commit suicide every day.

“Operation Veterans Suicide Outreach” will begin at 1 p.m. Sunday in the library courtyard. Additional events are planned for April 22, July 22, Sept. 22, Oct. 22 and Dec. 22.

Each event will feature a guest speaker. Participants will do 23 pushups to signify the 22 veterans on average lost each day to suicide, plus one for America.

Others supporting the effort include the Chapman American Legion Riders Post 240 and Ike’s Place Bar and Grill. Details for events later this year may be found on the Operation Veterans Suicide Outreach Facebook page, Facebook.com/23pushups/.
