Hometown News: Vero Beach - 1/13/2017

VERO BEACH ? The new Walmart Neighborhood Market is hiring. Opening this spring at 17th St. and U.S. Hwy 1, special preference is being given to recent military veterans.

Ninety-five positions are available. Most of the jobs will begin in February, preparing the store for the grand opening.

According to store manager Cheryl Medina, the store will be hiring both full-and part-time associates. "We are excited to bring jobs and a new place for our friends and neighbors in Vero Beach to shop," said Ms. Medina.

A temporary hiring center has opened at 703 17th St., where applications are now being accepted Mon.-Fri., 8 a.m.-5 p.m.

Applications can also be submitted online at careers.walmart.com. There is one application process for all retail jobs. The online application takes 45-60 minutes to complete, and you can save and return to your application within 60 days.

Walmart guarantees a job offer at either Walmart or Sam's Club to any eligible U.S. veteran honorably discharged from active duty since the company issued its Veterans Welcome Home Commitment on Memorial Day 2013.

Since that time, more than 150,000 veterans nationwide have found positions with Walmart. On Memorial Day 2015, Walmart expanded its commitment and said it would hire 250,000 veterans by 2020.

While veterans discharged on or before Memorial Day 2013 are not eligible for the guaranteed job offer, they are still considered highly desirable candidates.
