Wreaths across America remembers veterans

Amite-Tangi Digest - 12/22/2016

AMITE- On Thursday, December 15, the sound of V-twin motorcycles filled the air at the entrance to the Wal- Mart Supercenter in Amite. The cacophony of rumbling pipes served as a herald for the arrival of two Wal-Mart trucks carrying wreaths for National Wreaths Across America day, escorted by motorcycle-mounted military veterans, members of the Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff's Office, Louisiana State Police and Baton Rouge Police.

Tommy Munster, President of the Vietnam Veterans Association Chapter 1052 in Independence, served as master of ceremonies. Those in attendance were treated to a powerful performance of the National Anthem by Alicia Stewart Cowart. The ceremony featured many moments of reverence and reflection with speeches from Parish Councilman Nick Joseph and Parish President Robby Miller. The final show of respect offered was a traditional 21-Gun Salute and the playing of Taps on the bugle.
