Childhood Mental Illness Event at Sanborn

Carriage Towne News - 8/24/2017

KINGSTON -Sanborn Regional High School is excited to announce that it will host former New Hampshire Supreme Court Chief Justice John Broderick to the school on Thurs., September 14, to share his message about childhood mental illness with the community. This event is jointly sponsored by the Sanborn Regional School District, Southern Rockingham Coalition for Youth, the Center for Life Management, Plaistow Area Commerce Exchange, and the Campaign to Change Direction. In his own words, Broderick sets the stage for his message by saying the following, "Mental illness is the only illness from my childhood that remains in the shadows. We need to change the culture surrounding emotional suffering and we need to begin by letting everyone know its five most common signs and that early detection and treatment yield great success."

Sanborn Principal Brian M. Stack had this to say about the event: "Mental illness, both in children and adults, is one of the biggest threats to the long-term success of our local communities in southern New Hampshire. We have all been touched by someone with mental illness, and now more than ever, we need to band together to bring this issue to light and strategize what we can do as a larger community to eliminate this threat for our future. Our children are counting on us, and Mr. Broderick's campaign is one way we can educate ourselves on the best way to take action today for a better tomorrow."

Sanborn students will have the opportunity to hear Mr. Broderick speak in one of two morning sessions. At 11:30 a.m., members of the public can meet Mr. Broderick by attending the Plaistow Area Commerce Exchange (P.A.C.E.)'s luncheon with business and community members at the school. To RSVP for lunch, please contact Anne at P.A.C.E. at pacenh@yahoo.com. Lunch is $15.00 per person.
